Ronaldinho eyes Club World glory Playmaker Ronaldinho says Barcelona are desperate to win the Club World Championship because it is the only trophy the Catalan giants have not won.
His side begin their campaign with a semi-final against Mexicans Club America in Tokyo on Thursday.
Ronaldinho, 26, said: "We are serious about winning and for many reasons - most importantly because Barca does not yet have this trophy.
"We always said we are at Barca to make history and this is the unique one."
He added: "Another reason, for sure, is that to win in Japan would mean to close a wonderful season: the Champions League and this.
"We could say that we are the best ones in the world. We were in Spain, in Europe and hopefully we will be able to say the same here.
"I'm excited by all the competitions we've played, although this one has a very special meaning for everything that we have spoken about.
"To be able to win a title that no other player in the history of Barca has is an added motivation for us all."
Barca midfielder Xavi said Club America would be a tough proposition as they have already played a game in the tournament.
"Club America is probably better prepared than we are," conceded Xavi.
"They have been here for a while already and are more acclimated to the conditions. We are jet-lagged but that's no excuse because people expect us to win the title."
Barca must beat America to progress to Sunday's showpiece final, where they will meet either Brazil's Internacional or Al Ahly of Egypt.

Internazionale (Inter Milan) has offered 70 million euros for Lionel Messi. And Adriano would come to Barcelona. This was announced by Corrriere dello Sport
That's a ******* huge amount of money, I hope they won't let him go tough. Barca without Messi is like Liverpool without Gerrard. |

Muhah! Messi will never leave Barça, his father told that a few weeks ago, Messi is very happy at Barça and ha want to play there a lot longer than he is right now. Messi wants to be the new Ronaldinho when he's like that age.
& I've got something else to say:
Institut Ronaldinho Gaucho to be launched
Accompanied by his family, Ronaldinho is today due to inaugurate the Institut Ronaldinho Gaucho in his hometown of Porto Alegre. The Institute is dedicated to providing help for up to 3,500 young marginalized youngsters.
Ronaldinho is due to open the institute at 17.00, accompanied by his family and vice-president Ferran Soriano and the Director for Institutional Relations Marta Segú, representing the club.
The Project
Ronaldinho and his family have been working on the project for some time and the objective is to help up to 3,500 marginalized youngsters back into society through sporting activities. The centre boasts a full complement of the most up-to-date facilities and a fully trained professional staff to help the youngsters.
I saw it on television, and Ronaldinho started to cry, I think there's no other player like him so sensitive and doing something for all the little children in his own country to help them. Respect for Ronaldinho ! |
