Manchester United Vs Manchester City Ryan Giggs is set for a landmark appearance as Manchester United look to go nine points clear with victory in the derby over City, live on PremPlus.
Welsh wizard Giggs is poised to make his 688th appearance for United on Saturday, which will move him to joint second, alongside Bill Foulkes, in the list of all-time appearances for the club.
He is also in fine form at present, having scored a decisive goal in helping the club see off Benfica in midweek to progress to the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League.
Giggs could start in an unchanged United side from the one which started against Benfica as the current leaders aim to open up a nine-point gap on Chelsea.
Though the reigning champions would then have two games in hand, Sir Alex Ferguson will be anxious to grasp any opportunity to claim a psychological edge.
If Ferguson does go with the team which started against Benfica, it seems likely he will revert to a 4-4-2 formation, having begun with Wayne Rooney out wide against the Portuguese.
In recent weeks, though, Ferguson has rotated the left-back position, so one possible change is for Gabriel Heinze to come in for Patrice Evra.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returned from injury as a substitute against Benfica and his availability gives United an attacking option on the bench.
Alan Smith and Park Ji-sung played in the reserves' win over their City counterparts on Thursday, but are unlikely to be considered for the first-team clash.
City may not have won at Old Trafford since 1974, but the club have drawn four of their past five Premiership visits to the ground.
Stuart Pearce's side, though, have lost six of their eight away games this season - a stark contrast to their form at The City of Manchester Stadium, where they are unbeaten.
Pearce must decide whether to make any changes to the team which drew 0-0 at home to lowly Watford on Monday night.
Bernardo Corradi and Georgios Samaras started up front in that game, but Pearce could opt for the aggressive qualities of Paul Dickov for the derby.
Another option would be for Pearce to revert to the 4-5-1 formation he employed at Liverpool, when Micah Richards was used in midfield with Claudio Reyna and Joey Barton.
Such a move would likely see Samaras drop out of the side and Nedum Onuoha come in at right-back.
With no fresh injury worries, Pearce is only missing the services of Sun Jihai and Trevor Sinclair.
Skysports.com Prediction: 2-1
City to put up a fight, but United's extra class to tell.
Player to watch: Ryan Giggs
