Dude, read the official statements made my the Lyon officials after the whole Essien thing, they want Owen BAD!
| Quote: | Lyon confident Essien will stay but sets sights on Owen
LYON, France, Aug 3 (Reuters) - French champions Olympique Lyon are confident Ghana midfielder Michael Essien will stay and would like Michael Owen to join, club president Jean-Michel Aulas said on Wednesday.
"It is more likely than not that Michael Essien will stay with us this season," Aulas told reporters. "We have set conditions for his departure and so far those conditions have not been accepted," he said.
"Besides, Chelsea no longer seem really interested."
Aulas said Lyon, chasing an unprecedented fifth successive Ligue 1 title, were still hoping to sign a top striker and hinted it might be England's Owen, who seems likely to leave Real Madrid.
"I would be very happy if Owen could join us," he said. "The question is whether the club can afford such a player. I think Lyon can."
Lyon have been resisting sustained pressure from Chelsea over Essien for weeks and have told the English champions that they would not let him go for less than 45 million euros ($55.41 million).
Essien, who won the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award last season, said he wanted to join Chelsea but he might not be allowed to.
Aulas denied British media reports saying he had already met Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
He added that another club was interested in Essien but he declined to comment on suggestions in the media that it might be Manchester United.

Bolton Clinch Nakata Signing
| Quote: | Bolton Wanderers have completed the loan signing of Japan midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata from Fiorentina, subject to international clearance.
Nakata, 28, who has played in Italy for the last six years, will move to the Reebok Stadium on a season-long loan.
Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce said: "I am pleased the deal is sorted out. His medical was fine and we have now sorted out a work permit.
"He is an exciting acquisition for us and will add strength to our midfield."
Allardyce added: "His focus and belief in himself and his talent will be a great addition for us in the Premiership. His focus is only to play Premiership football."
"He tells me it has been his wish for a number of years and we’re giving him that chance.
"He wants to be a major success for us and prove he is a good, good player in the Premier League.
"We want to get him in amongst the lads as quickly as possible.
"We will have something like 14 nationalities in the dressing room with Nakata and five different religions. There will be a fantastic menu in the canteen!
"But, in all seriousness, I’m pretty excited about this young man."
Nakata has won 66 caps for Japan, and has previously played for Roma (winning the Scudetto in 2000-01), Parma, Perugia (10 goals in 33 games), Bologna and J-League Bellmare Hiratsuka.
Allardyce plans to introduce him gradually to the Premiership.
"Hopefully he can adapt pretty quickly and become a major success," he said.
"He is a very accomplished player and has got a lot of experience of European football as well as with the national team." |
... I might need to change some of my EPL predictions now.... |

Spurs Sell Kanoute To Sevilla
| Quote: |
Tottenham have sold Fredi Kanoute to Sevilla for a reported £4.4m.
The La Liga outfit made their move for the Malian striker following the sale of Julio Baptista to Real Madrid last month.
Kanoute, who joined Spurs from West Ham two-years ago, had fallen to fourth choice striker at White Hart Lane, although had been determined to stay with the North London club.
It has been suggested that the sale of Kanoute has been to raise the funds to sign Newcastle's Jermaine Jenas, who is rated at £10m.
