Didier Drogba (Chelsea) ==> Olympique Lyon
| Quote: |
Lyon would consider Drogba
Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas admits he would consider Didier Drogba should Chelsea offer the powerful forward in exchange for Michael Essien.
However, the Lyon supremo remains sceptical as to whether Jose Mourinho would sacrifice the former Marseille favourite to ensnare the powerful Ghana midfielder.
Aulas is confident Essien will stay for at least another year and then in principle, a move to Stamford Bridge could materialise should both parties concur on a deal.
Chelsea are keen to push through a deal for the start of next season but it would appear that for the moment, Lyon are willing to resist their overtures.
Speculation in recent weeks has strongly suggested Chelsea are willing to use Drogba as bait but it would appear Aulas is not giving this suggestion too much credence.
''Before he left for Ghana, Michael Essien confirmed to me that he was not against staying an additional year at Lyon,'' Aulas told L'Equipe.
''He just wants the conditions of his departure to be set for next season.
''It is true Chelsea and his agent are not against a departure. I said Essien will stay, as I did for Mahmadou Diarra.
''Usually when I say players will stay, they stay. We will try to improve, adding three or four internationals.
''If Peter Kenyon calls me to propose Didier Drogba because Chelsea have hired Eto'o or Adriano, I will listen to him.
''However, I don't believe in Santa Claus anymore.'' |
