Wright-Phillips wants Blues talks

Winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has asked Manchester City for permission to speak with Premiership champions Chelsea.
The Blues had a £20m bid for the 23-year-old England international rejected on Friday but are expected to come back with an improved offer.

Quote:
City spokesman Paul Tyrell said: "Our chairman has spoken to Shaun and Shaun asked permission to talk to Chelsea.

"Shaun has expressed a desire for Manchester City to reach an agreement with Chelsea over his transfer."

Chelsea will want to wrap up the deal before they fly out to the US on Tuesday to continue their pre-season preparations.

City will now decide whether to hold out for a bigger fee from Chelsea before allowing Wright-Phillips to speak with the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Tyrell added: "I think it's the situation that [chief executive] Alistair Mackintosh and [chairman] John Wardle will be discussing now there's been this fairly seismic change from the player."

Wright-Phillips played for City in their friendly at Tranmere on Friday but withdrew from the side to play at Macclesfield on Saturday.

City claimed he was feeling unwell and had been driven home.

Wright-Phillips has previously insisted he wanted to stay at City and the club have always made it clear they wanted to keep their prized asset.

After the Tranmere game, Man City boss Stuart Pearce said: "The kid doesn't want to go anywhere.

"He wants to stay with me, the club and the supporters," Pearce added.

Wright-Phillips joined City in the summer of 1998 having been a trainee at Nottingham Forest and has played almost 150 games for the club.

Arsenal were also thought to be keen to sign him but are unlikely to be able to compete with the spending power of the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Wright-Phillips was City's joint top scorer with 11 goals last season and also made his England debut which saw him score against the Ukraine after coming on as a substitute.

Chelsea were set to swoop for Steven Gerrard before the midfielder signed a new deal with Liverpool and have also made a bid for Lyon's Michael Essien.

Chelsea sign Le Havre youngster

Quote:
Chelsea have signed French youngster Lassana Diarra from French second division side Le Havre.
Diarra is a French Under-21 international and during the summer won five caps while helping France win the Toulon Tournament.

The Paris-born 20-year-old has signed for the Premiership champions on undisclosed terms.

Diarra had been training with Chelsea and will join Jose Mourinho's squad on their US tour next week.

Essien claims Chelsea move is on

Michael Essien says he has an agreement with Lyon that they will allow him to move to Chelsea for the right price.
Lyon have so far rejected the Blues' advances for the the 22-year-old Ghana international and chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has insisted he is not for sale.

Quote:
But Essien said: "I know directors of both clubs are to see each other again in the next few days.

"I have the chairman's word that he will do everything to find an agreement with Chelsea as soon as possible."

Essien was sent off in Lyon's draw with Columbian side Once Caldas in South Korea on 15 July.

He has been the subject of £17m and £18m bids from Chelsea this summer, but Lyon are holding out for £30m, and the stalemate has left Essien frustrated.

"I did not take part in the talks. It's up to the two clubs now to agree. I have made my choice. I want to go to Chelsea," he added.

"I have made the directors understand I can no longer stay at Lyon. My decision is firm and definitive.

"The chairman knows he can't keep a player against his will. He and manager Gerard Houllier understand that."

wtf, look at that amount of money and he isn't even a topplayer by far

Man if Wright-Phillips goes to Chelsea I would be angry. He is my favourite English player and I dislike them.

Wright-Phillips is staying at City... so dont worry.. alot of clubs in da EPL are turning down CFC... i guessthey were abit to vocal in their decisions over players...

Man City reject Chelsea bid for Wright-Phillips

Quote:
MANCHESTER, July 15 (Reuters) - Manchester City have turned down a big-money offer from Premier League champions Chelsea for England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.

"We have always stressed that we want Shaun to stay...and Shaun himself has always been adamant that he is happy here as the club continues to build on the excellent progress made under the leadership of (manager) Stuart Pearce," said City in a statement on Friday.
"We do not encourage any bids for Shaun and both the club and the player remain firmly focused on our preparations for the new season."

The bid from Chelsea for the 23-year-old winger was reported by the media to be 18 million pounds ($31.66 million).

Wright-Phillips, who has been capped four times by England, has played over 150 league games for City since making his debut in the 1999-2000 season.

The right-sided player, who started his career as a junior at Nottingham Forest, was City's joint leading scorer last season with 11 goals and has also attracted interest from Arsenal.

Wright-Phillips is the step son of former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright.
