Allianz Arena
The Allianz Arena is a football stadium located in the north-Munich district of Fröttmaning. The arena, which opened its doors on May 30, 2005 with a friendly match between TSV 1860 München and 1. FC Nürnberg, will play host to the opening game of the 2006 World Cup. With its completion, it has officially replaced the Olympiastadion as the home stadium of FC Bayern München and TSV 1860 München. It has been designed by the swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron.
The stadium boasts a capacity of 66,000 spectators. The exterior shell will feature 1056 diamond shaped panels, each of which can be individually lit in different colors (red, blue or white), allowing a spectacular display of moving patterns.

Ballack Hints At Bayern Stay

Bayern have big aims: We want to defend the league championship as well as the German Cup and go far in the Champions League and I want to be part of that."
With his contract due to run out next summer, Bayern are anxious to get a commitment from their talismanic midfielder before deciding whether they need to sell him to cash in on his value or risk losing him for nothing after the World Cup.
Coach Felix Magath is hopeful that Ballack will stay. Magath told the official Bayern Munich Web site: "I'm totally calm and confident the board will do everything humanly possible to resolve the situation to our advantage. I'd like to see a decision before the end of the year, which would help me in planning. Obviously I'd be delighted is he was still here to lead the team in the years after 2006."
For his part, Ballack seemed open to offers, saying: "I'm in the good situation that I can choose. It's a very important decision for the club and for me and that's why it should be carefully considered. It could take a few days, a few weeks or perhaps a few months. But the possibility that I'll extend is high. I feel good here."
General-manager Uli Hoeneß has rejected rumours that the player is looking for a salary of around €10 million to stay at the Allianz Arena. Hoeneß told Bavarian TV show Blickpunkt Sport: "We insist on sporting success being tied to financial prudence. The point may come when we have to say no. When people start talking about €10 million-plus I just don't understand the world any more. Surely no-one believes Ballack earns more than €4 million or thereabouts? And we're supposed to be considering more than doubling that?"
The East German born Ballack has long been linked to a move abroad and, at 28, will now realise that if he is to have that experience it will have to be now. Real Madrid would seem the likely destination if he does take the plunge, but my bet is that we will see the German national team skipper at Bayern for a little longer yet.

Ballack Would Fancy Madrid Move

Ballack only has one year left on his contract at Bayern and Madrid are ready to make the Bundesliga champions an offer, according to Spanish daily Marca.
But Florentino Perez has insisted that his club will pay no more than €10million for the former Bayer Leverkusen player as he could be available on a free transfer at the end of next season if he does not extend his contract.
Manchester United are also keeping tabs on Ballack's situation, but he stated that he intended to stay in Germany until after next year's World Cup finals when their interest was made public.
Despite not being guaranteed a starting place every week at the Bernabéu, Marca claims that Ballack has alreay made it clear that he could be tempted by a move to Spain this summer.
After holding talks with Madrid while he was still with Bayer Leverkusen, Ballack knows that this will be the last time that the Spanish outfit will make a move for his services as he celebrates his 29th birthday in September.
In order to prepare for an opening offer, Madrid are keen to settle the future of Walter Samuel, Guti, Luis Figo and Michael Owen, with the first two likely to pushed out of the club to make room for the German star. |
