Bayern's Demichelis faces four-week injury layoff

Quote:
Bayern Munich midfielder Martin Demichelis faces four weeks out injured after tearing an ankle ligament while training with Argentina before their friendly against Hungary.

Bayern said the defensive midfielder, who appeared in line to make his first start for Argentina, had his left ankle put in plaster on Thursday after tearing the ligament on Wednesday evening just before the match kicked off.

The 24-year-old had established himself in the Bayern side but seems certain to miss their next two Bundesliga matches and Sunday's visit to regional league side MSV Neuruppin in the first round of the German Cup.

He will also be unavailable for Argentina's next World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on September 3, although they have already secured a place in the finals in Germany next year.

....looks like Magath will have to put Ze or Scholl back a bit to provide leverage in the rear, this'll be interesting... especially if Sali actually goes

Easy Cup win for Bayern, Stuttgart survive scare

Bayern Munich began their German Cup defence with a laid-back 4-0 win over fourth division MSV 1919 Neuruppin at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on Sunday.

French centre-back Valerien Ismael scored his first Bayern goal to get the holders off the mark in the ninth minute of a match played in front of 30,000 fans at the venue for next year's World Cup final.

Coach Felix Magath had chosen to rest Michael Ballack and Roy Makaay and Bayern looked a lot less dangerous as a result but a second-half double from Mehmet Scholl and one from young midfielder Andreas Ottl completed a straightforward victory.

.... nice job by the boys, now on to stage 2... sigh..

Reds ease to victory in Zagreb

Quote:

23.08.2005 Bayern have concluded their "Visiting Friends" double-header in Eastern Europe with an ultimately deserved 2-0 victory over a Croatian league Select XI assembled and sponsored by Munich partner T-Com in Zagreb on Tuesday evening.

The 40,000 crowd at the Maximir stadium saw Zé Roberto hand in-control Munich a 25th minute lead, before Roy Makaay settled the outcome with a trademark 77th minute finish. The victory bore similarities to a 3-1 triumph over Legia Warsaw two weeks ago, and taking into account the Bavarians' summer trip to Japan, means the Reds have now run up seven victories in a row.

Guerrero partners Makaay

Felix Magath took the opportunity to experiment in Zagreb, naming Owen Hargreaves and Hasan Salihamidzic as his starting full-backs. Jens Jeremies anchored defensive midfield with Ali Karimi and Ze Roberto on the flanks. José Paolo Guerrero partnered Makaay up front, although the selection was forced on Magath as Roque Santa Cruz (torn muscle) and Claudio Pizarro (back) had stayed behind in Munich.

Oliver Kahn was a spectator for much of the first half as Bayern probed for a way through the deep-lying Croatian defence. Ten of the "home" side were drawn from seven-time champions Dynamo Zagreb, and a close understanding was evident as the visitors initially struggled to create chances. The best fell to Zé Roberto, but the Brazilian's 25 metre free kick sailed over the bar.

Reds keep up the pressure

However, the Brazil winger's next effort paid dividends as he latched onto Makaay's superb lay-off to lob the keeper for a 25th minute opener.

To Magath's undoubted dismay, his side failed to make the most of a string of chances before half time as Zé , Makaay and Guerrero all might have done better. The hosts' sole opportunity worthy of note fell to Bosniak, but the striker nodded over the bar. Salihamidzic provided grounds for concern as he limped off with a groin strain midway through the half to be replaced by Andreas Ottl.

Close call for Deisler

The Reds boss made six changes at the break, meaning all 16 of his currently fit outfield players tasted the action. Sebastian Deisler made an immediate impact, seeing his claims for a 47th minute penalty harshly waved away before blasting goalwards a minute later only to be denied by the keeper.

Bayern controlled proceedings without threatening for a spell before Makaay put the result beyond doubt. Guerrero won possession outside the box, Schweinsteiger fed Makaay, and the deadly Dutch ace netted with a flourish.

T-Com Croatia emerged from their defensive shell for the last quarter of an hour and second half keeper Michael Rensing pulled off two or three outstanding saves, but in truth the Reds had shifted down two gears by now and saw out time for a smooth enough victory. Just an hour after the final whistle, the party had boarded the plane for Munich.

T-Com Croatia 0 Bayern Munich 2 (H-T: 0-1)

Bayern Munich: Kahn (Rensing 46) – Salihamidzic (Ottl 24), Lucio, Ismael, Hargreaves (Lizarazu 46) – Karimi (Deisler 46), Jeremies (Sagnol 46), Ballack (Scholl 46), Zé Roberto (Schweinsteiger 46) – Guerrero, Makaay

Attendance: 40,000

Goals: 0-1 Zé Roberto (25), 0-2 Makaay (77)

Yes, you're so right, sorry I didn't post on the previous one, probably didn't see it, I would post on it if I see it, scouts honour Wink
So I suggested to lower the points of the general chat, so people would start posting on the real soccer items, cause this is a football forum (1001x I said that line)
