Juve killer instinct irks Bayern
Bayern Munich could not hide their frustration at losing 2-1 to Juventus in Wednesday's Champions League match in Turin with manager Felix Magath amazed at how the Italian champions seem to convert every scoring chance.
Bayern looked to have snatched a point when a Sebastian Deisler cross evaded everyone in the 66th minute, but France striker David Trezeguet, who had opened the scoring in the 61st minute, produced the winner out of the blue five minutes from time.
"Juve hardly had a scoring chances but against a top class team a goal can come from nothing," admitted Magath. "We were almost there but had a bit of bad luck in one or two instances.
"If you look at both the matches we were better over the 180 minutes but just did not have that little bit of luck you need at this level."
Bayern defeated Juventus 2-1 in the first match in Munich but Juve enacted their revenge by the same scoreline and left Bayern with a feeling of injustice.
"I am bitterly disappointed that we have left Turin without a point," said Germany international Deisler.
"We had Juve under control for the most part but they scored out of nothing - something they do quite a lot."
The clinical strikes made their mark on Bayern's French defender Valerien Ismael who admitted you could not switch off with Trezeguet lurking.
"We turned in a good performance but took our eye off the ball twice and Trezeguet scored two goals," declared Ismael.
Juventus top Group A on goal difference and the loss has Bayern looking over their shoulder at Club Bruges who defeated Rapid Vienna 3-2 to move to within three points of the top two teams.
Bayern's next Champions League match is at home to Rapid Vienna on November 22 before a trip to Club Bruges on December 7.

Bayern 3 Werder Bremen 1
Leaders pull clear in emphatic style
Roy Makaay ended his scoring drought as the leaders pulled five points clear of their closest rivals in a pulsating encounter which fully lived up to its match of the day billing.
Another 66,000 capacity crowd at the Allianz Arena was treated to a scintillating opening phase, as the defences gave the impression of men who met for the first time in the tunnel before kick-off.
Miroslav Klose shattered Bayern's pristine home record with the first goal for a visiting team at the Arena after just 36 seconds, but Bastian Schweinsteiger equalised before three minutes were up.
The chances came thick and fast as both sides hit the woodwork and squandered an array of passable openings, but Claudio Pizarro made no mistake on 34 minutes to toe-poke his side into the lead.
Roy strikes again
The champions seized the initiative after that, and the elation was palpable when Makaay side-footed home on the stroke of half-time for his first goal in 1,124 minutes of play.
With Bremen forced to make the play after the interval, Bayern opted for stifling tactics and the plan paid off as the home side restricted Werder to a handful of half-chances to wrap up three vital points against serious title contenders.
Bayern fielded an unchanged line-up featuring Schweinsteiger at left-back and Martin Demichelis as the enforcer, with Michael Ballack declared fit from a bruised thigh before the match.
The game exploded into life with the first passing move as the visitors took a shock first-minute lead. Germany star Tim Borowski swung over an inviting cross and Klose soared above Schweinsteiger to power a fine header past Oliver Kahn with Bayern's big centre-backs nowhere in sight.
Dramatic opening phase
A combination of the post and keeper Andreas Reinke denied Pizarro an instant reply, but Schweinsteiger burst forward to level with a shot which took a wicked deflection off ex-Red Torsten Frings as the Bremen rearguard criminally failed to clear their lines.
Paraguay striker Nelson Valdez drove inches wide and Makaay volleyed agonisingly the wrong side of the post with the goal gaping as the fast and furious action continued.
Lucio headed Zé Roberto's corner over the bar, Borowski unleashed a 20-metre curler onto the crossbar, Deisler skied a fine opportunity teed up by Pizarro, and Kahn reacted sharply to nick Klose's lay-off from Valdez' toe, all before the midpoint of the half.
Frings might have done better from Klose's lobbed pass but the home side looked more settled after the half-hour and Pizarro took advantage of sieve-like Werder defending to toe-end Zé's cut-back past Reinke's despairing dive on 34 minutes.
Magath's tactical switch
There was no pause for breath as Kahn raced to berate his defenders after Valdez planted a free header wide of the target on 38 minutes, but the situation looked a lot rosier a minute before the break when Pizarro's foraging provided Makaay with the opportunity to increase his side's lead and simultaneously end his personal misery.
19-year-old Anglo-German strike sensation Aaron Hunt replaced the hobbling Valdez at the interval as Werder initially pressed, and Kahn spilled the youngster's 48th minute drive only for Klose to be flagged offside as he went for the rebound.
Reds boss Felix Magath reacted by replacing Deisler with midfield bruiser Jens Jeremies in an effort to curb Borowski's increasingly dangerous roving, and the switch had the effect of extinguishing the visitors' fluidity, albeit at the expense of the leaders' own attacking efforts.
Reds run down time
Ali Karimi took over from Ballack on 66 minutes as the Germany skipper's thigh gave up for the day, but the chances were sporadic now as the Reds played for the result.
Pizarro warmed Reinke's gloves with a quarter-hour remaining as Bayern began to create openings on the break, before the Peruvian failed to beat Reinke in a one-on-one when a pass to Makaay might have been the better option.
Owen Hargreaves enjoyed a brief return to the action as a late substitute, and despite Klose and Hunt's late efforts, Bayern had a relatively trouble-free run to the finish.

11/14/2005 9:22:00 PM
Bayern Munich have officially withdrawn their offer of a contract extension to Germany captain Michael Ballack and will now contact interested clubs to see if a suitable transfer can be arranged, it was confirmed today.
"We officially withdrew our offer today," said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at the club’s annual meeting in Munich. After meeting with the player and his representative on Monday, Rummenigge found that Ballack had still not made his mind up on the offer.
"That does not necessarily mean that Michael will leave us but I say point blank that we will immediately sound out the market to look for a replacement," the striking legend told the AGM.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, AC Milan and Juventus have all been linked with a move for the 29-year-old German skipper.
Movements are now afoot to see if the club can earn a suitably lucrative transfer fee for a player who is out of contract in June and free to discuss terms with other parties in January.
