Ailton Jets Out To Istanbul

Quote:
Schalke 04 striker Ailton is set to become a Besiktas player this week after flying out of Germany for Istanbul and a Wednesday medical with the Turkish club.

The Brazilian striker has already agreed a prelimininary deal with Besiktas after Schalke requested a fee of €3.5 million for the player signed only last year from Werder Bremen. With the fee agreed, all that remains is for Ailton to pass his medical and sign on the dotted line.

The burly striker scored 14 times for Schalke last season, but was largely a shadow of the player who tore Bundesliga defences asunder for Bremen in 2004. He will earn €1 million a year in Turkey and will make a further €800,000 simply by signing on. Having once angled for a lucrative move to Qatar in search of international recognition, the player has always had one eye on his finances. On departure today, he told the media: "This is good business for all."

At the club's training ground, Schalke boss Ralf Rangnick concurred, saying: "This is a sum we cannot reject." Rangnick is now likely to turn his attention to Danish international Soren Larsen. The 23-year-old Djurgardens player would cost the Gelsenkirchener €1.2 million if a clause in his contract is triggered for release. However, the Swedish club and Schalke differ on when this comes into force. Rangnick is anxious to find a replacement for Ailton and expects to reinvest the proceeds of the Brazilian's sale. "It is clear we cannot go into the season with only three strikers," he said.

Well Schalke signed Larsen, one of the best young danish players at the moment so we bought a good replacement for Ailton.
