Teenage Sinclair Promoted To Derby Match Squad
Quote:
Sat, 5th May 2007

José Mourinho has added 18-year-old Scott Sinclair to the squad to face Arsenal, indicating the attacking player will be one of the 16 players on the team and substitutes sheet.

Sinclair returned from a successful three-month loan spell at Championship side Plymouth last month having made his full Chelsea debut in the 90th minute of the Carling Cup semi-final game at Wycombe.

At Plymouth, the England Under 18 international made ten starts and eight sub appearances, scoring four goals, including a remarkable solo effort against Barnet that is one of the best by anyone in this season's FA Cup.

José Mourinho explained the reasons for the call-up to the squad to Chelsea TV:

'We have not many choices but what I am going to do because the boy deserves it and we trust him, and I have to make the decision to keep him in the squad or to send him on loan for a few months, is use [Scott] Sinclair. He will be involved.'

Sinclair has been back in the reserves since returning from Plymouth with his pace mostly used on the left of a front three. He was the reserves' top scorer in the campaign just finished with seven goals in 11 outings.

One of Sinclair's colleagues in the Chelsea reserve squad, Michael Woods, was in action for England Under 17s on Friday as his side's quest to become European champions stuttered a little with a 1-1 draw against tournament hosts Belgium.

Two other Chelsea youngsters, Nana Ofori-Twumasi and Tom Taiwo, remained on the bench.

A win for England in their final group game against Holland on Monday will guarantee a place in the semi-finals and entry to the world championships for that age group later this year.

That's a very young age to play a derby against Arsenal.

And what do y'all think, is Chelsea going to win or not?
