Legend Maldini’s Career Over The 39-year-old has announced that he will be hanging up his boots at the end of the campaign, following almost a quarter-of-a-century at the very top.
However it seems as if Maldini may have already played his last-ever game after he picked up a left thigh injury during training yesterday.
Tests have revealed that the damage done is reasonably severe, and it is expected that the defender will miss the final five games of the campaign.
Maldini has stated recently that he was considering overturning his decision to retire for another year, however the widespread belief is that this will not happen.
The legendary defender made his Serie A debut at the age of just 16 as a half-time substitute in a match with Udinese on January 20, 1985.
During his illustrious career, Maldini has won seven Scudetti, five Champions League titles, two World Club Cups and one Coppa Italia among many other trophies.
He is the all-time record appearance maker for his club and country, having represented the Azzurri on 126 occasions. The defender played in four World Cups and three European Championships and without question will go down in history as the best defender of his generation |
