The Partenopei have been enjoying their return to the big time and so far they have impressed. Survival was an objective but the Azzurri have gone one better by ensuring a mid-table finish. De Laurentiis is now looking ahead as he hopes to challenge for some honours next season.

“Our aim this season was 11th place but I think we are 8th at the moment and so the team has done better than expected,” De Laurentiis told Il Corriere Dello Sport.

“However they will not be players who will make all the headlines but people like Lavezzi.

“I have an excellent sporting director in Pier Paolo Marino and for now he’ll be thinking about ending the season on a high and then we’ll see what happens.”

Napoli clash with Milan on Sunday and the president insists that his side will not be lying down against the Rossoneri.

“Sunday’s game will be difficult as Milan are in great form at the moment but we will not be playing to lose,” concluded the chief.
